We opened Halkakas fish-bistro in 2012 in downtown Budapest, the first restaurant using only domestically produced fresh fish as our main ingredient. We think that freshwater fish does not get the attention it deserves from the domestic and international gastronomy; therefore, our mission is to present Hungarian fish in a new light.
We believe that not only fish that’s been transported thousands of kilometers can be used to create high quality food in Hungary. This is the reason that in Halkakas, we source our fish from the best Hungarian fish farms, so our chef can create novel and exciting meals from them.
Besides traditional local fish-dishes, we invented lots of special meals, so we can find a new place for freshwater fish in Hungarian gastronomy. Our fish-dishes are created bone-free, easy to consume, offered with Hungarian fruit syrups, wines from small producers, craft beers and tasty pálinka’s.
